Ozena (atrophic rhinitis) is a chronic disease characterized by progressive atrophy of the nasal mucosa, underlying bone, and cartilage tissue. Widening of the nasal cavity, mucosal dryness, and green-black foul-smelling crusts are typical findings. The primary form is idiopathic and usually seen in young women. The secondary form can develop after granulomatous diseases, radiotherapy, or excessive surgery. Loss of smell (anosmia) often accompanies the condition.
