What is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A)?

Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) is the analysis of all 24 chromosomes by NGS using 5-10 cells obtained from the trophectoderm at the blastocyst stage during an IVF program. The aim is to increase transfer success by selecting euploid embryos.

PGT-A may be considered in patients over 35, recurrent implantation failure, recurrent pregnancy loss, and severe male factor. Current studies show high live birth rates per euploid embryo.

The procedure includes controlled ovarian stimulation, oocyte retrieval, ICSI, blastocyst culture, trophectoderm biopsy, and vitrification. Clinical interpretation of mosaic embryos is conducted with up-to-date genetic counseling.

Symptoms

Advanced maternal age (≥35)
Recurrent pregnancy loss (≥2)
Recurrent IVF implantation failure
Previous aneuploid pregnancy
Severe male factor infertility
Family history of translocation carrier

Risk Factors

Maternal age
Diminished ovarian reserve
Recurrent failed IVF cycles
High DNA fragmentation due to male factor
Carriage of structural chromosomal anomaly
Previous abnormal pregnancy

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • For PGT-A evaluation in IVF planning
  • In the work-up for recurrent pregnancy loss
  • In fertility evaluation with advanced maternal age
  • When chromosomal translocation is detected

Treatment Methods

01
Controlled ovarian stimulation and IVF
02
Fertilization with ICSI
03
Trophectoderm biopsy at the blastocyst stage
04
NGS-based 24-chromosome analysis
05
Interpretation of mosaic results with genetic counseling
