What is Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)?

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a treatment approach applied by D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) physicians that includes the holistic evaluation and treatment of tissues, joints and the musculoskeletal system by hand.

Methods include musculoskeletal joint manipulation, muscle energy techniques, counterstrain, myofascial release and visceral manipulation.

Evidence level varies by application and indication; supportive evidence exists in low back and neck pain, headache and some functional conditions. It does not replace conventional treatment.
