What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is plasma enriched with platelets, prepared by centrifuging the patient's own blood and injected into the area to be treated.

Through their growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF) the platelets stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. PRP is widely used in orthopaedics, sports-injury treatment, dermatology and hair restoration.

Symptoms

Rotator-cuff and Achilles-tendon problems
Hair loss (androgenetic alopecia)
Healing of chronic wounds and ulcers
Sports injuries and ligament damage
Facial rejuvenation (dermatological PRP)

Risk Factors

Active infection or thrombocytopenia (contraindicated)
Use of anticoagulants requires careful assessment
Haematological cancer or sepsis (contraindicated)
Local pain and swelling at the injection site is an expected reaction
Scar formation with repeated injections
Not used in active malignancy
