What is Orthopedic Biologic Therapies?

PRP delivers concentrated platelets and growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, IGF-1) to modulate inflammation, recruit progenitors and support tissue repair, with leukocyte-poor preparations preferred for OA and leukocyte-rich for tendinopathy.

BMAC and adipose-derived MSC therapies combine progenitor cells, cytokines and extracellular matrix factors to enhance regeneration in cartilage defects, focal OA and rotator-cuff augmentation.

Scaffold-based and orthobiologic surgery includes osteochondral allograft, MACI (matrix-induced chondrocyte implantation), nano-hydroxyapatite scaffolds and amniotic membrane allografts to support biologic repair of cartilage and tendon.

Symptoms

Knee osteoarthritis with persistent pain
Chronic tendinopathy (lateral epicondyle, Achilles, patellar)
Focal cartilage defects on MRI
Partial rotator-cuff tears not requiring repair
Refractory plantar fasciitis

Risk Factors

Active malignancy or hematologic disorder
Active infection at injection site
Severe coagulopathy
Pregnancy
Unrealistic patient expectations

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • Persistent joint pain despite first-line therapy
  • Tendinopathy not responding to physiotherapy
  • Discussion of cartilage-restoration options
  • Pre-surgical augmentation planning
  • Worsening function despite injections

Treatment Methods

01
Diagnostic imaging (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound) to confirm pathology
02
Ultrasound-guided PRP injection for OA or tendinopathy
03
BMAC or MSC therapy in selected cases
04
Combine biologics with structured rehabilitation
05
Scaffold-based cartilage surgery for focal defects
06
Long-term outcome monitoring with PROMs (KOOS, IKDC)
