What is Orthogeriatric Hip Fracture (Combined Approach)?

The orthogeriatric model provides early surgery, comorbidity management, delirium prevention, fluid and electrolyte optimization, and pain control through joint daily care by orthopedic and geriatric teams in elderly hip-fracture patients.

Surgery within 48 hours is the target; even a 24-hour delay increases mortality. Daily geriatric assessment is performed for each patient.

For secondary fracture prevention, osteoporosis evaluation, calcium and vitamin D optimization, and antiresorptive therapy are initiated. Falls-prevention programs and rehabilitation goals are defined.
