What is Endometrial Cancer?

Endometrial cancer is a gynecological cancer that originates from the endometrial epithelium and is most commonly seen in postmenopausal women aged 55-70. It is classified into two main groups: type 1 (endometrioid, estrogen-dependent) and type 2 (serous, clear cell, more aggressive).

Chronic estrogen exposure, obesity, metabolic syndrome, nulliparity, late menopause, tamoxifen use, and Lynch syndrome are the main risk factors. The diagnostic finding is abnormal uterine bleeding.

Diagnosis uses transvaginal ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, and hysteroscopy. Treatment is total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy ± lymph node assessment. In advanced stages, adjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy are added.

Symptoms

Foul-smelling discharge
Pelvic pain and pressure
Abdominal distension in advanced stages
Weight loss and fatigue

Risk Factors
