What is Zen Meditation (Zazen)?

Zen meditation (Zazen), originating from the Japanese Buddhist tradition, means 'enlightenment through sitting'. It is practiced in an upright cross-legged posture with focus on the breath or open awareness.

Neuroscientific research shows that regular Zen meditation increases prefrontal cortex thickness, reduces amygdala reactivity and modulates the default mode network.

It forms one of the foundations of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs. It is used as a complementary therapy for chronic pain, anxiety, depression and burnout.

Chronic stress and burnout
Anxiety and rumination
Attentional difficulties
Emotional dysregulation
Sleep disturbances
