What is Yoga and Meditation?

Yoga is a mind-body practice combining breathing exercises (pranayama), physical postures (asana), and meditation. Meditation is a mental training method in which attention is intentionally focused.

Beneficial effects supported by clinical studies are present in the management of hypertension, chronic pain, anxiety disorders, depression, and diabetes.

Risk Factors

Severe osteoporosis and fracture risk (avoid certain postures)

Postures that strain the spine are contraindicated in disc herniation
Risk of injury with insufficiently trained instructors
Intensive meditation may worsen symptoms in psychosis
