What is Traditional Medicinal Herbal Bath?

Traditional medicinal herbal bath is a form of balneotherapy in which medicinal plants are prepared as decoctions (boiled extracts) or infusions and added to bathwater. It has been part of Anatolian, European and Far Eastern traditions for centuries.

Thyme, rosemary, lavender, chamomile, pine needle and eucalyptus are among the most commonly used plants. Benefit comes through three mechanisms: skin absorption, inhalation and thermal effects.

It is used as a complementary therapy for skin diseases such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis, for muscle pain and rheumatic complaints, and for stress and insomnia. In Germany it is integrated with Kneipp water therapy.
