What is Therapeutic Ultrasound Treatment?

Therapeutic ultrasound is an electrotherapy modality that delivers high-frequency sound waves to tissues through a coupling gel. It can be applied in continuous and pulsed modes.

Continuous ultrasound creates a thermal effect providing deep heating; pulsed ultrasound produces an athermic mechanical effect with cavitation and microstreaming. Both methods support tissue healing.

It is widely used in tendinitis, bursitis, muscle spasms, ligament injuries, and soft tissue contractures. Contraindications include growth plates, pregnancy, tumors, and deep vein thrombosis.
