What is Susac Syndrome?

Susac syndrome is a rare disease in which the brain, retina, and inner ear are commonly affected as a result of autoimmune endotheliopathy of small vessels.

It is usually seen in young women and is recognized by the triad of encephalopathy, branch retinal artery occlusions, and sensorineural hearing loss.

The typical 'snowball' appearance in the inner part of the corpus callosum on MRI assists in diagnosis.
