What is Spirituality and Healing?

Spirituality and faith are important psychosocial elements that can positively influence health through coping with illness, the search for meaning and the sense of hope. Prayer, meditation and spiritual counseling are evaluated within this scope.

The clinical literature has shown beneficial effects on patient well-being, quality of life and coping mechanisms, particularly in palliative care and chronic illness; however, there is no evidence that they directly cure disease.

Spirituality should be regarded as a complement to, not a substitute for, medical treatment. Claims of 'miracle' cures, spiritual exploitation and approaches that delay evidence-based treatment can cause serious harm.
