What is Rehabilitation: Balance Training Platform?

Computerized dynamic posturography platforms measure center-of-pressure displacement during quiet standing and perturbations under different visual and somatosensory conditions. Sensory Organization Test, Motor Control Test, and limits of stability assessment characterize specific deficits in vestibular, visual, or somatosensory contributions to balance.

Therapeutic protocols use biofeedback during weight-shifting exercises, dynamic stance challenges with platform tilts and translations, and visual targeting tasks. Patients see real-time visual representation of their center-of-pressure to consciously modify postural strategies. Progressive task difficulty shapes motor learning and confidence.

Indications include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo after canalith repositioning, vestibular neuritis, multifactorial fall risk in elderly, post-stroke balance impairment, post-concussion syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, and Parkinson's disease. Combined with vestibular and somatosensory exercises, programs of 12 to 20 sessions over 6 to 12 weeks improve balance confidence and reduce falls 30 to 40 percent.

Symptoms

Recurrent falls in elderly
Vertigo with vestibular dysfunction
Imbalance after stroke or brain injury
Unsteady gait in Parkinson's disease
Post-concussion balance impairment

Risk Factors

Age over 65
Vestibular disorders
Stroke or traumatic brain injury
Parkinson's disease and neurodegenerative
Peripheral neuropathy and lower limb weakness
