What is Phytotherapy: Silymarin (Milk Thistle) and Liver Health?

Silymarin is a flavonolignan mixture obtained from the seeds of the Silybum marianum plant. The main component is silibinin.

Hepatocyte membrane stabilization, antioxidant, and antifibrotic effects have been shown in animal and some clinical studies.

The use of IV silibinin in Amanita phalloides poisoning is one of the rare evidence-based supported indications.
