What is Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)?

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) is a complementary physical medicine approach that aims to stimulate tissue with low-frequency electromagnetic waves.

Limited evidence has been reported for bone non-union, osteoarthritis pain and some chronic pain conditions. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for depression is a separate approved modality and should not be confused with PEMF.

The clinical value of home-type devices is debatable. Application should be guided by an authorized healthcare professional.
