What is Pelvic Ultrasound?

Pelvic ultrasound is a non-radiation examination that examines the organs of the pelvis using sound waves. It can be performed transabdominally or transvaginally/transrectally.

In female patients, it is first-line for evaluating the uterus, ovaries, endometrium, pregnancy, fibroids, and ovarian cysts. In men, it is used for assessing bladder capacity, prostate size, and residual urine measurement.

A full bladder may be required before the procedure; transvaginal ultrasound is preferred with an empty bladder.

Menstrual irregularity
Lower abdominal pain
Infertility evaluation
Pregnancy follow-up
Bladder and prostate problems
Ovarian cyst/fibroid follow-up
