What is Parkinson Rehabilitation?

Parkinson disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Primary motor features (tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, postural instability) and non-motor features (cognitive impairment, depression, sleep disturbance) shape the rehabilitation plan.

LSVT LOUD (voice amplification) and LSVT BIG (large-amplitude movement) are evidence-based programmes specific to Parkinson rehabilitation.

Falls are among the most important problems for people with Parkinson disease, and balance training combined with gait strategies is essential to reduce fall risk.

Symptoms

Slow shuffling gait with short steps
Freezing on initiation or turning
Stooped posture
Micrographia (small handwriting)
Hypophonia and dysphagia
Balance impairment and high fall risk

Risk Factors

Advanced disease stage (Hoehn-Yahr)
Frequent freezing episodes
Previous falls
Cognitive decline
Long off periods on medication

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • At diagnosis for baseline rehabilitation assessment
  • When gait or balance problems begin
  • After a fall
  • When response to medication fluctuates

Treatment Methods

01
LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD specialist programmes
02
