What is Ocular Motor Rehabilitation?

Ocular motor rehabilitation covers the treatment of eye movement disorders that develop after brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, or vestibular diseases. There may be problems in the areas of saccades, pursuit movements, vergence, and the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR).

Evaluation includes ocular motor tests (saccade, pursuit), accommodation, vergence, VOR, and dynamic visual acuity studies. Double vision (diplopia), blurred vision, and balance problems are common complaints.

Rehabilitation exercises are designed as a home program with a target of 10-15 minutes daily practice. It is conducted in an integrated manner with orthoptic vision therapy and vestibular rehabilitation.
