What is Mindfulness-Based Therapy?

Mindfulness-based therapies consist of structured programs such as MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy), which integrates mindfulness with cognitive behavioral therapy.

They have a standard 8-week curriculum and have evidence in chronic pain, prevention of depression relapse, anxiety disorders, and psychosocial support during cancer.

Programs should be administered by licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, or certified MBSR instructors. They should be used cautiously in individuals with psychotic disorders.
