What is Mesotherapy in Hair Loss?

Mesotherapy is a procedure in which a special cocktail (vitamin B and C, biotin, hyaluronic acid, dutasteride, finasteride) is injected at intradermal level (1.5-4 mm depth) into the scalp.

It is applied for the purpose of strengthening hair roots, lengthening anagen phase and improving microcirculation.

Best results are obtained in androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium and post-traumatic hair loss in combination with PRP and minoxidil; sessions are weekly 4-6 then monthly maintenance.

Symptoms

Indications: androgenetic alopecia (early-mid stage)
Indications: telogen effluvium and stress-related hair loss
Indications: alopecia areata (in some cases)
Indications: support after hair transplant
Side effect: pain, swelling and bruising at injection site
Side effect: temporary headache and burning sensation
Side effect: rare allergic reaction

Risk Factors

Anticoagulant use (bleeding risk)
Active scalp infection (folliculitis)
Allergy to mesotherapy ingredients
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (limited safety data)
Autoimmune disease and immunosuppression
Diabetes and uncontrolled hypertension
Keloid tendency and tendency to skin scarring

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • Mesotherapy must be performed only by certified dermatologists or aesthetic physicians
  • Detailed skin and hair analysis must be done before treatment
  • Realistic expectations should be set; thickening rather than new hair growth
  • Combined therapy: minoxidil, finasteride, PRP and mesotherapy
