What is Medical Acupuncture and Pain Management?

Medical acupuncture is a TCIM method based on anatomy, neurophysiology and segmental dermatomes, applied by experienced and certified physicians. Unlike traditional Chinese acupuncture, diagnosis and indication are made through conventional medical assessment.

Systematic reviews have reported supportive effects in some conditions such as chronic low back pain, migraine prophylaxis, osteoarthritis and nausea associated with cancer treatment. Evidence level is limited-to-moderate and treatment is not considered sufficient on its own.

In Türkiye it must be applied by physicians authorized by the Ministry of Health. There is risk of infection, pneumothorax and nerve injury if not performed with sterile, single-use needles and appropriate anatomic knowledge.

Symptoms

Migraine prophylaxis
Osteoarthritis pain
Fibromyalgia symptoms
