What is MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction)?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a structured 8-week program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the 1970s, consisting of meditation, yoga, and body scan exercises. It aims to transform stress reactions by enhancing awareness.

Randomized trials have shown positive effects on chronic pain, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, hypertension, and psychological support during cancer. The level of evidence is between limited and moderate, and it does not replace conventional treatment.

Training should be delivered by certified MBSR instructors. Daily home assignments and regular practice form the foundation of the program.
