What is Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)?

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT, also called photobiomodulation) is a treatment method that produces biological effects at the cellular level using low-intensity laser light at a wavelength of 600-1000 nm.

It increases ATP production via mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, decreases inflammatory mediators, stimulates collagen synthesis, and suppresses pain. It is effective in tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, and low back pain.

Treatment is noninvasive with very few side effects. Direct application to the eye, pregnancy, and active malignant areas are among the contraindications.

Symptoms

Acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain
Tennis and golfer's elbow
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Neck and low back pain
Shoulder impingement syndrome
Plantar fasciitis
Tendon and ligament injuries

Risk Factors

Direct exposure to the eyes (contraindication)
Active malignant area
Pregnancy (abdomen and lower back)
Photosensitizing drugs
Use over the thyroid region
Open epiphyseal lines
Bleeding risk
