What is Lavender Aromatherapy for Anxiety?

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is one of the most commonly used essential oils in aromatherapy. Linalool and linalyl acetate components are believed to exert anxiolytic effects via the GABAergic system.

An oral capsule formulation (silexan, 80 mg/day) has been found in randomised controlled trials to be as effective as lorazepam in generalised anxiety disorder.

Inhalation aromatherapy is a complementary approach used in dental procedures, ICU patients, postoperative anxiety and exam stress.
