What is Laser Acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture is a modern complementary therapy that provides noninvasive and painless stimulation by applying low-power laser (LLLT, 10-500 mW) to traditional acupuncture points.

It is preferred as an alternative to traditional needle acupuncture for needle-phobic patients, children and individuals on anticoagulants.

Through the photomodulation mechanism, it increases cellular ATP production, reduces inflammatory cytokines and triggers endogenous opioid release.

Symptoms

Need for acupuncture in needle-phobic patients
Pediatric pain management
Chronic musculoskeletal pain
Temporomandibular joint disorders
Migraine and tension-type headache
Acupuncture alternative in patients on anticoagulants

Risk Factors

Application around the eyes without protective glasses (retinal damage)
Direct application over malignancy (concern about tumor growth)
Contraindication of certain points in pregnancy
Use of photosensitizing medications
Careful application in patients with epilepsy
Risk of ineffectiveness at insufficient doses
