What is Integrative Oncology Supportive Therapies?

Integrative oncology is a multidisciplinary approach that combines evidence-based complementary practices (mindfulness, acupuncture, yoga, massage, nutritional counseling) with conventional oncology treatment in cancer patient care.

Symptom management methods that have shown supportive effects on chemotherapy-related nausea, pain, anxiety, fatigue, sleep disorders and treatment adherence are summarized in the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) guidelines.

An important principle is that complementary methods do not replace conventional treatment. Patients should report all practices, including herbal products, to the oncology team.
