What is Guided Imagery Therapy?

Guided imagery is a mind-body method that contributes to relaxation, pain and anxiety management by guiding the patient toward soothing mental scenes with the help of a trained guide or audio recording.

It has been used as a supportive measure in preoperative anxiety, nausea and pain perception during cancer treatment, chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder. The level of evidence is moderate.

Its low-risk and low-cost nature is an advantage. It does not replace medical treatment; it is added to a holistic care plan.
