What is Ginkgo Biloba: Cerebral Circulation Support?

Ginkgo biloba leaf extract (EGb 761) is a standardized herbal preparation containing flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol) and terpenoids (ginkgolides, bilobalide). Antioxidant, antiplatelet activation, and neuroprotective effects have been reported.

Clinical use areas; mild cognitive impairment and dementia supportive treatment, peripheral artery disease, tinnitus, vertigo, intermittent claudication. Evidence level varies according to areas.

Important interactions; warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel and similar anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs increase bleeding risk. Pre-surgical discontinuation 10-14 days is recommended. May lower seizure threshold in epilepsy patients.
