What is Feldenkrais Method?

The Feldenkrais method is an educational system developed by Moshe Feldenkrais in the 20th century, aiming to help the body move more efficiently and to enhance neuromuscular awareness.

It is performed with small, gentle movement sequences and accompanying kinesthetic awareness. There are two main formats: 'Awareness Through Movement' and 'Functional Integration'.

There is limited study data showing supportive benefit in some musculoskeletal pains and balance. It is not sufficient as a standalone treatment for medical disease.

Symptoms

Non-specific musculoskeletal pain (supportive)
Postural disorders
Balance and coordination problems
Stress management (supportive)
Learning efficient movement in athletes
Support for neurological rehabilitation

Risk Factors

Acute musculoskeletal injuries
Advanced osteoporosis
Active rheumatologic inflammation
Severe balance disturbances
Pregnancy (the practice should be adapted)
Neurological crisis situations

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • Feldenkrais alone is not a medical treatment
  • Physician approval is required first in the presence of neurological disease
  • A T&CM-authorized practitioner should be preferred
  • Avoid practices that cause intense pain

Treatment Methods

01
Evaluation by a T&CM-authorized practitioner
02
Individual and group sessions
03
Gradual movement education
04
