What is Clinical Use of Curcumin?

Curcumin is the main active compound of turmeric (Curcuma longa) and has been shown to exert anti-inflammatory effects through pathways such as NF-kB and COX-2.

Clinical studies have reported supportive effects in osteoarthritis pain, ulcerative colitis, metabolic syndrome, and some chronic inflammatory diseases. Bioavailability is low, so piperine or liposomal formulations are used.

Anticoagulant interactions, cautious use in biliary obstruction, and conditions such as pregnancy must be considered. It does not replace conventional therapy.
