What is Clinical Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is exercise and physical rehabilitation taking advantage of buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and thermal effects of water at controlled temperature. It includes underwater exercise, whirlpool, contrast baths and Hubbard tanks.

Supportive effectiveness has been reported in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic low back pain, neurologic rehabilitation and postoperative rehabilitation. Evidence level is limited-to-moderate.

It must be applied under medical supervision by trained physiotherapists. Infection control and cardiovascular safety are important.

Acute infection and open wound
Uncontrolled heart failure
