What is Chiropractic Spinal Manipulation?

Chiropractic is a health discipline applied by qualified chiropractors aiming to improve neuromuscular function with high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulations directed at the spinal joints.

It is most often used in acute and subacute low back pain; evidence also exists for some headaches and neck pain. Rare but serious vascular complications have been reported with cervical manipulation.

It must be applied alongside medical evaluation; in red flag symptoms, advanced workup must be done before manipulation. It should be supportive of, not an alternative to, conventional treatment.

Symptoms

Acute mechanical low back pain
Subacute low back pain
Neck pain
Cervicogenic headache
Migraine supportive
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
Postural pain

Risk Factors

Osteoporosis and fracture
Inflammatory spinal disease
Congenital vascular variations (cervical)
Coagulopathy
Anticoagulant use
