What is Ayurveda-Based Nutrition?

Ayurvedic nutrition is a holistic system based on a 5,000-year-old Indian medical tradition. It offers individualized dietary recommendations according to the person's innate body type (prakriti/dosha) and current state of imbalance (vikriti).

Diet is planned within the framework of three primary doshas (Vata-movement, Pitta-transformation, Kapha-structure) and six tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, astringent). Each dosha has its own balancing and aggravating foods.

The concept of agni (digestive fire) is central; portion size and timing are set according to digestive capacity. Seasonal adjustments (ritucharya) and detoxification (panchakarma) are part of the dietary approach.
