What is Acupressure for Nausea and Vomiting Control?

Acupressure is a noninvasive technique that, in line with traditional Chinese medicine principles, applies finger or wristband pressure on specific acupuncture points instead of needles to control symptoms.

The Pericardium 6 (P6/Neiguan) point is located between two tendons on the inner wrist and is the most studied acupressure point shown to have an antiemetic (nausea-relieving) effect.

Cochrane meta-analyses have reported favorable outcomes in postoperative nausea-vomiting, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and pregnancy nausea (hyperemesis gravidarum). A practical wristband (Sea-Band) form is available.

Pregnancy nausea (morning sickness)
Chemotherapy-induced nausea
Motion sickness (travel sickness)
Migraine-associated nausea

Risk Factors

Skin damage or infection at the application site
Fracture or injury of the wrist region
Bruising from excessive pressure
Incorrect point identification
