What is Post-Polio Syndrome?

Post-polio syndrome is a condition presenting with new muscle weakness, fatigue, muscle and joint pain emerging after a long stable period of usually 15-40 years following past paralytic polio.

Re-degeneration of previously preserved motor neurons due to overuse plays a role in its etiology. Respiratory and swallowing muscles can also be affected.
