What is Hoarding Disorder?

Hoarding disorder is a psychiatric disorder in which the inability to discard items and continual accumulation make living spaces unusable. The person becomes attached to items regardless of their actual value.

This disorder is often accompanied by accumulation that fills common areas and basic spaces such as the kitchen and bathroom, hygiene problems, and social isolation.

Diagnosis is made by psychiatric evaluation. Cognitive behavioral therapy is considered an effective approach in treatment.
