What is Varicocele Embolization?

Varicocele embolization is the procedure of occluding the internal spermatic vein with a sclerosing agent and/or coils through a catheter introduced via the femoral or jugular vein.

Advantages include the minimally invasive nature, no need for general anesthesia, early return to work, and a small puncture site. Success rates comparable to microsurgical varicocelectomy have been reported.

It can be preferred in symptomatic varicocele, infertility-related varicocele, and post-surgical recurrence. It requires interventional radiology experience.
