What is Robotic Living Donor Nephrectomy?

Robotic living donor nephrectomy is the surgical procedure for removing a kidney from a living donor for transplantation, performed with robot-assisted technology.

Compared with open surgery and standard laparoscopy, it provides better magnification, three-dimensional vision and improved instrument articulation.

It is the gold standard technique in centers experienced with high donor and recipient safety profiles.

Symptoms

Brief abdominal pain in the postoperative period
Mild swelling at the trocar incisions
Transient temporary fatigue
Mild postoperative scrotal or labial edema possible

Risk Factors

Major venous structures and unusual vascular anatomy
Severe obesity in the donor candidate
Previous abdominal surgery and adhesions
