What is Retrograde Ejaculation Treatment?

Retrograde ejaculation results from bladder-neck incompetence due to diabetes-related autonomic neuropathy, alpha-blocker therapy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, prostate or bladder-neck surgery, or spinal cord injury.

Diagnosis is made when post-orgasm urinalysis shows abundant sperm and ejaculate volume is reduced or absent. Hormonal and seminal evaluation is performed in infertility workup.

Treatment is selected by underlying cause: alpha-adrenergic agents, anticholinergics or imipramine for medical management, and bladder sperm retrieval for assisted reproduction when medical therapy fails.

Symptoms

Reduced or absent ejaculate volume
Cloudy urine after orgasm
Male infertility
Diabetes-related neurogenic findings
History of pelvic or retroperitoneal surgery
Use of alpha-blockers
Spinal cord injury sequelae
