What is PHACE Syndrome?

PHACE syndrome describes a cluster of structural brain, arterial, cardiac, and ocular anomalies accompanying large segmental infantile facial hemangiomas.

The hemangioma typically grows rapidly in the first weeks, raising diagnostic suspicion. MRI, echocardiography, eye examination, and arterial imaging are planned in the early period.

Propranolol therapy is effective in hemangioma control; in the presence of cerebrovascular involvement, dosing is carefully planned.

Symptoms

Large segmental hemangioma on the face
Intraocular or orbital involvement
Cardiac murmur
Neurological delay
Vision and hearing problems

Risk Factors

Female infant predominance
Prematurity
High birth weight
Twin pregnancy
Segmental hemangioma distribution
