What is Parapsoriasis?

Parapsoriasis is a group of diseases that may be confused with psoriasis but follows a different clinical course. Small plaque and large plaque forms are recognized.

Large plaque parapsoriasis is considered a precursor for mycosis fungoides (cutaneous T-cell lymphoma). Therefore, long-term follow-up is important.

Lesions are usually non-itchy or mildly itchy, pale-pink colored, and oval-plaque shaped. Treatment is shaped according to lesion size and progression risk.

Symptoms

Pale pink plaques on trunk and buttocks
Mild scaling
Usually mild or absent itching
Lesions <5 cm in small plaque form, >5 cm in large plaque
Worsening in winter months
Lesions improving in sun-exposed areas
Rare lesion evolution monitoring over years

Risk Factors

Middle and advanced age
Male sex
History of long-term mild dermatitis
Genetic predisposition (unclear)
Immune system disorders
Family history of mycosis fungoides (uncertain)
Chronic inflammation
