What is Meatoplasty (Meatal Stenosis Repair)?

Meatal stenosis is narrowing of the urethral meatus that may be congenital or acquired (most commonly post-circumcision in pediatric population, post-traumatic or post-inflammatory in adults).

Meatoplasty is performed when narrowed meatus causes voiding difficulty, deflected stream, dysuria or recurrent urinary infections. Various techniques are used (V-Y plasty, Heineke-Mikulicz, etc.).

It is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia in an outpatient setting. Postoperatively, regular dilation prevents recurrence.
