What is Diagnostic Cystoscopy?

Cystoscopy is the direct visualization of the inner surface of the urethra and bladder using a flexible or rigid endoscope. It is a basic diagnostic tool in conditions such as hematuria, suspected bladder tumor, recurrent infections, urinary incontinence, and fistula.

Flexible cystoscopy is generally performed in outpatient settings under local anesthesia. Rigid cystoscopy is combined with additional procedures such as biopsy, cautery, and stent placement in operating room conditions.

It is a safe and well-tolerated method with appropriate preparation, antibiotic prophylaxis, and experienced application.
