What is Adult Vaccination Schedule?

Adult vaccination covers updating childhood vaccines and administering new vaccines required in adulthood. Age, occupation, health status, and travel plans affect vaccination decisions.

Main recommended vaccines for adults include: annual influenza (flu) vaccine, tetanus-diphtheria (Td) booster every 10 years, pneumococcal for those 65 and over and in risk groups, hepatitis A and B, HPV (up to age 26 or up to age 45 based on individual risk assessment), and zoster vaccines.

There are additional vaccine recommendations for individuals with immune suppression, pregnancy, chronic illness, or travel plans to endemic regions. An infectious disease specialist provides guidance in creating an individual vaccine schedule.

Symptoms

Vaccination program is not a disease but a preventive intervention
Susceptibility to preventable infections in unvaccinated individuals
Risk of complications in diseases such as flu and pneumonia
Being vulnerable to serious diseases such as tetanus and diphtheria
Increased risk of HPV-related cancers (in unvaccinated individuals)
Risk of developing shingles increases after age 50
Exposure to diseases of the relevant region during international travel

Risk Factors

Being unvaccinated or having incomplete vaccine schedule
Age 65 and over
Chronic diseases (diabetes, COPD, heart failure)
Immune system suppression
Being a healthcare worker
Pregnancy or pregnancy planning
International travel to endemic areas

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • To update or start the vaccination schedule

  • Before international travel
  • After contact with an infectious disease
