What is Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program in COPD?

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary program designed to reduce symptoms and increase physical and emotional participation in chronic respiratory diseases. In COPD it is the non-pharmacologic treatment with the highest level of evidence.

The program usually lasts 6-12 weeks and includes exercise training 2-3 sessions per week, patient education, nutritional counseling, and psychosocial support. It produces a significant increase in 6-minute walk distance and a reduction in dyspnea scores.
