What is Transcatheter Tricuspid Repair (TTVR)?

Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) is a recently developed option for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation at high surgical risk. Available platforms include edge-to-edge repair devices (e.g., TriClip, PASCAL), annular repair systems and transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement.

Tricuspid regurgitation is often associated with right ventricular dilation, pulmonary hypertension, left-sided heart disease or long-standing atrial fibrillation. Because surgical mortality is high, many patients receive limited treatment.

TTVI is performed under transesophageal and intracardiac echocardiographic guidance and early data show meaningful reductions in regurgitation severity and improvements in quality of life.

Symptoms

Leg and abdominal edema
Ascites
Prominent neck vein pulsation
Hepatomegaly and right upper quadrant discomfort
Fatigue
Dyspnea
Loss of appetite

Risk Factors

Advanced age
Long-standing atrial fibrillation
Left-sided heart disease
Pulmonary hypertension
Rheumatic valvular disease
Pacemaker lead-related regurgitation
Congenital heart disease (Ebstein, etc.)
