What is Myocardial Perfusion SPECT (Stress)?

Myocardial perfusion SPECT is a classic nuclear medicine technique that evaluates myocardial perfusion using radiotracers such as 99mTc-sestamibi or tetrofosmin with stress and rest imaging.

Exercise or pharmacologic stress (adenosine, dipyridamole, dobutamine, regadenoson) is used to assess the ischemic response and viability. It is a versatile and widely available method.

Newer CZT-detector cameras have reduced radiation dose and improved image quality. The method continues to have broad guideline support.
