What is Vaccination Schedule?

The national vaccination schedule includes, at specific age intervals, hepatitis B, BCG (tuberculosis), DaBT-IPV-Hib (pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, Hib), pneumococcal, measles-rubella-mumps (MMR), chickenpox, hepatitis A, meningitis (meningococcal) and HPV vaccines.

These vaccines, offered free of charge to all children in Türkiye, are supplied by the Ministry of Health. The vaccination card followed in family health centers is an important document showing that each vaccine is given on time.

Some specific vaccines (rotavirus, influenza, meningococcal B) are not yet included in the Turkish national schedule but can be administered for a fee on the pediatrician's recommendation.

Symptoms

Vaccine reactions are usually mild and transient: redness and swelling at the injection site
Mild fever (38-38.5°C) can be seen in the 1-2 days after vaccination
Irritability and crying are common, resolving in 24-48 hours
Antipyretic and cold compress are sufficient
Serious allergy (anaphylaxis) is very rare; 15-30 min observation is recommended after vaccination

Risk Factors

Being unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated
Immunosuppressed children (caution with live vaccines)
Premature infants (dosage and timing adjusted under pediatrician guidance)
Communities with lapsed vaccinations (increased outbreak risk)
International travel

When to See a Doctor?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:

  • When there is fever above 39°C after vaccination or crying longer than 3 hours
  • If there is swelling or redness at the injection site lasting longer than 48 hours
  • If rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty develops (anaphylaxis)
  • When there is a delay in the vaccination schedule, for a catch-up program

Treatment Methods
